Each page provides word models designed to exaggerate the control process and arranged with space for practice of rhythmic movement. The goal is internalization of words for improved fluency and legibility. Counts are shown for each letter in each word. Students count aloud as they write the word in a directed activity. When the pupil can write the word legibly while counting aloud, it is a good indication that the movement sequence for the target word has been internalized as a usable unit - available for recall in a preplanned pattern for more automatic execution.
